Story: Mel was rescued from a shelter in Puerto Rico with his brother. We are so happy to have Mel safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Mel is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. He knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with his humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Mel is just looking for someone to be his new best furend and we know that he will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Mel will need an adopter who is committed to setting him up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising him both mentally and physically. He will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive!

What my foster says: Mel is a goofy and loving boy! He loves play time as much as he loves snuggles. Mel is a quick learner and currently working on his leash manners, “place”, “leave it” and recall. He still has puppy tendencies when excited, but is super responsive to corrections and is learning really well! At home, Mel can be found playing with the resident dog, chewing on a stuffie, lying upside down on the couch or tilting his head while watching tv. Mel has been excellent at potty training and is making great progress on crate training. He will be a loving addition to a home!

The fee to adopt Mel is $475. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, his neuter, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Mel has been seen by a shelter vet and was given a clean bill of health.
