& VALUES

Who we are

Petey and Furends is a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit no-kill animal rescue organization that is dedicated to reducing instances of neglect, abuse, and homelessness in companion animals. To do this, we use research- and evidence-based practices to facilitate a matchmaking experience that will increase the rate of successful adoptions.

All members of Petey and Furends are volunteers who dedicate their time and compassion to the animals.

Our Values

Compassion - We show compassion toward the animals, the adopters, the donors, and the volunteers.

Adaptability - We will go the extra mile to save a life, always.

Teamwork - The bigger the team, the bigger the impact; we are all in this together.

Education - We will always be open to learning because if we aren’t, we will not grow.

Responsiveness - We will react quickly and positively to all interactions.

YOUR PERFECT MATCH

Selecting our Animals

Petey and Furends works with several shelters across various states to save dogs and cats from euthanasia. All animals are behaviorally and medically assessed in the shelter environment prior to being transported to the rescue.

We work very hard to save animals that have been overlooked, may have medical illnesses, or are pregnant or nursing.

The Foster Home

Upon arriving in the DC area, all of our animals are placed in a loving foster home. All of our Lifesavers are volunteers who welcome our animals into their homes—without them we would not be here. Lifesavers within the Petey and Furends community have all received training and have ongoing contact with other volunteers to ensure that animals receive the care that is needed for them to live happy and healthy lives.

Meet your Match Assessment

Petey and Furends uses the research-based Meet Your Match assessment to identify each animal’s personality. This ensures that all animals are tested for common character traits that will allow our Matchmakers to place them in homes where they will thrive.
